Lions score 100 first time in D1 era, roll over LeTourneau

COMMERCE – For the first time in the Division I era, the East Texas A&M University women's basketball team scored over 100 points, beating the LeTourneau Yellowjackets 104-33 on Tuesday night on the Hunt Regional Healthcare Court in the Field House.
 
The Lions scored the first 14 points of the game and never looked back, holding the Yellowjackets to just seven points in the second quarter and two in the third quarter. East Texas A&M moves to 2-1 on the season, while Tuesday was an exhibition contest for LeTourneau.
 
In the game, the Lions shot 59.4 percent from the field, 53 percent from deep, and 67 percent at the line, with six players scoring in double digits. East Texas A&M last scored 100 points on January 23, 2022, at home against Midwestern State.
 
Hannah Humphrey (Lamar Consolidated) shot 7 for 11 from the field for her team-best 21 points, adding two rebounds, two steals, a block, and a steal as well, while J'Unti Franklin (Natchitoches, La.) added 19 points six rebounds, three steals, and two blocks.
 
Jordyn Newsome (Irving – MacArthur) scored 13 points, starting the game making her first five shots, including three from outside-the-arc. Both Nina Horvath (Oberwart, Austria) and Nyaluak Dak (Lincoln, Neb.) added 13 points each and Jamy De Kock (Woudrichem, The Netherlands) scored 12 along with five rebounds. Dak had team-high eight rebounds. Nykesha Sanders (Detroit, Mich.) led the way with seven assists.
 
The Lions had 13 steals, 11 blocks, 41 fastbreak points, 66 points off the bench, and 31 points off turnovers. Mariana Espinosa scored seven to lead LeTourneau.
