Razorbacks down Lion Women's Basketball, 84-65

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – The East Texas A&M University women's basketball team was set back 84-65 on Friday morning in front of 12,267 fans at Bud Walton Arena to the Arkansas Razorbacks.
 
The Lions drop their first game of the season, while Arkansas picked up its first win as both teams are now 1-1 on the season. Friday was Elementary Day for the Razorbacks with nearly 9,000 kids in attendance.
 
This was the second matchup for the Lions at an SEC opponent, and it was the first game as East Texas A&M Lions for the women's basketball program.
 
The first seven points of the game were scored by the Razorbacks, who led by as much as 14 in the first quarter. The Lions scored the next 10 points into the second quarter to make it a four-point game and had a chance to cut into the lead further, but were not able to, and the Razorbacks pushed their lead back all the way up to 14.
 
In the second half, the Lions were outscored 43-35, with Arkansas leading by as much as 26 points in the second half. The Lions shot 27 percent in the first half and 39 percent in the second.
 
Arkansas had 26 free throw attempts and made 21 of them, while the Lions went 7 for 9 at the line in the game. Four of five Razorback starters scored in double digits, led by Kiki Smith scoring 22 on 8 for 9 shooting, including 4 for 5 from deep, and 2 for 3 from deep.
 
The Lions were led in scoring by Cora Horvath, who tallied 15 points, making three shots from outside the arc, while Jasmine Payne (Birmingham, Ala.) scored 14 and Hannah Humphrey (Kendleton) added 13. Alva Hedrich (Muecke, Germany) had team-best seven rebounds and four points.
