COMMERCE – East Texas A&M University football special teams coordinator and chief of staff
Dr. Jack Welch has resigned from East Texas A&M to become the general manager and assistant head coach for the San Antonio Caballeros of the International Football Alliance.
Dr. Welch spent five seasons as the Lions special teams coordinator and has also served as the program's chief of staff for the past two seasons.
"I want to thank Coach Welch for all he has done for the Lion football program over the last six years," said coach
Clint Dolezel. "He has been an instrumental member of the coaching staff throughout his time here and the overall operation of the football program as the chief of staff. We wish him and his family the best in this exciting endeavor down in San Antonio."
The International Football Alliance is a newly formed 11-man outdoor football league, with teams in both Mexico and the United States. The IFA's inaugural season is set to begin in June 2025. The Caballeros are one of seven teams in the league.
While with East Texas A&M, Dr. Welch has coached six all-conference players on special teams as well as one running back receiving all-conference honors during his three-year tenure as the running backs coach.
A veteran coach with over 30 years of experience, he won 193 games as the head coach of Copperas Cove High School, being one of the winningest coaches in Texas High School Football history.
