Two quick goals give Lion Soccer a 2-2 tie against the Mean Green

COMMERCE – A pair of goals in a span of less than 40 seconds helped the Texas A&M University-Commerce soccer team earn a 2-2 tie to the North Texas Mean Green on Friday night at the Lion Soccer Field.

The Lions move to 1-2-1 on the season, while the Mean Green are now 2-2-1. This was the second consecutive year that the two teams met, Friday was the first ever meeting in Commerce.

In an aggressive first half, the Mean Green posted 13 shots and eight corners in the first half, including four on goal, which were all saved by Gillian McKenzie (Mesquite Horn).

After coming up empty handed in their first 20 shots of the match, Alexis Miller scored the first goal of the day in the 60th minute. She took a pass from Rachel Roebuck and shot it in from about 21 yards out.

On the other end Kaydence Ramirez (Waxahachie) topped Miller with a goal from nearly 40 yards away in the 66th minute. She deflected a pass and took a long kick that ended up in the back of the next. KAYDENCE RAMIREZ GOAL HIGHLIGHT

Following the restart, the Lions attacked on the offensive zone once again as Ramirez kicked in a cross for Hannah Bell (Duncanville), who tallied her third goal of the season, and put the Lions ahead despite being outshot by double digits in the match.

The Lions remained ahead until the 84th minute and Roebuck scored her fifth goal in the last two matches to tie the match at one. Bailey Wesco hit a shot on goal, which was saved by McKenzie, but Roebuck cleaned up the rebound from point-blank range.

The Mean Green had the 27-11 edge in shots and took 13 corners in the match, while the Lions took none. McKenzie picked up nine saves in the match, while Maddie Odgen recorded three saves, which all came in the first half, as both shots on goal she saw in the second half were goals for the Lions.
