COMMERCE – Despite 22 shots on a humid Sunday night at the Lion Soccer Field, the Texas A&M University-Commerce soccer team came up short in a 1-0 loss to the Tarleton State Texans.
The match went into a weather delay after 10 minutes in the first half, which lasted two hours and five minutes officially. The Lions fall to 1-3-1 on the season, while Tarleton is now 3-1-3 and outscored A&M-Commerce 3-0 over the last two seasons.
The Lions tallied 10 shots in the first half, including four on goal, which were all saved by the Texans. Tarleton managed just two shots in the first half, but capitalized on its second shot in the second half via a goal from Stevie Reynolds, scoring off a loose ball.
In the match, the Lions finished with 22 shots and 10 corners, yet were kept off the scoreboard, thanks in large part of six saves from Mikayla Kendall. Tarleton nearly added another goal in the 64
th minute, but
McKenna O'Toole (Lake Travis) came away with a header and the team save. O'Toole played 52 minutes, making her Lion debut.
MARINA VERA TEAM SAVE HIGHLIGHT
In the 90
th minute,
Sloane Denning (Flower Mound Marcus) was mere inches away from tying the match as her shot went off the post.
Gillian McKenzie (Mesquite Horn) played the full 90 minutes in goal for the third consecutive match and recorded three saves.
For the Lions,
Kaydence Ramirez (Waxahachie) shot six times and
Hannah Bell (Duncanville) had four.
