No. 11/11 Sac State shuts out Lion Football, 34-0

COMMERCE – For the first time since 2011, the Texas A&M University-Commerce football team was held without a point as it fell 34-0 to No. 11/11 Sacramento State on Saturday night on Ernest Hawkins Field at Memorial Stadium.
 
The Hornets are ranked No. 11 in both the American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) and the Stats Perform FCS Poll. Sac State is now 2-2 on the season, while the Lions fall to 0-4. This was the first time A&M-Commerce was shutout since November 12, 2011.
 
After leading by 3-0 after the first quarter, the Hornets scored 17 in the second quarter and 14 in the third quarter. The Lions had five drives into Sac State territory, but came away with two turnovers, a turnover on downs at the one-yard line, and a missed 25-yard field goal.
 
The Lions had four turnovers in the game, including an interception returned for a touchdown. Sac State outgained A&M-Commerce, 414-197.
 
Three quarterbacks were used by A&M-Commerce. Eric Rodriguez (Fort Bend Marshall) returned after missing the last two games, going 8 for 16 with 87 yards and two interceptions, while Ron Peace (Malakoff) threw for 59 yards on 5 for 8 passing and a interception. Will Madonna (Lakewood, Calif.) came in the second half and threw for 25 yards.
 
Defensively, Max Epps (Spring – Dekaney) had 12 tackles, while Kyree Anderson (Cy Lakes) had a fumble recovery, which was forced by King Ambers (Pickering, Canada) and Dylan Scott (Aubrey – Braswell) picked up an interception.
