COMMERCE – The Southeastern Louisiana Lady Lions pulled away from the East Texas A&M University women's basketball team for a 57-44 win on Thursday night at the Hunt Regional Healthcare Court in the Field House.
East Texas A&M held a 15-8 lead after the first quarter, holding Southeastern to shoot 4 for 15 through the first 10 minutes, but ET was held to just 29 points the rest of the game, including being outscored 29-17 in the second half.
There was a total of nine lead changes and four ties in the game as East Texas A&M held a lead as big as seven in the game and held a 35-32 at the 2:13 mark of the third quarter. Southeastern scored the next 16 to take a 48-35 lead at the 6:28 mark of the fourth quarter. SLU's largest lead in the game was 15 points.
Payne (Montgomery, Ala.) scored 17 points off the bench for East Texas A&M, while
Nykesha Sanders (Detroit, Mich.) added 12, and
Alva Hedrich (Muecke, Germany) added 11 rebounds. Taylor Bell led SLU with 10 points, coming off the bench. Southeastern's bench outscored ET's, 25-17.
East Texas A&M falls to 4-11 on the season and 1-5 in Southland Conference play, having lost three in a row. Southeastern leads the SLC with a record of 7-0 and is 13-3 overall, and is now 6-0 over ET over the last three years.
