COMMERCE – Southland Conference-leading Stephen F. Austin Ladyjacks picked up a 3-0 win over the East Texas A&M University volleyball team on Thursday night via set scores of 25-14, 25-17, and 25-16 at the Hunt Regional Healthcare Court in the Field House.
The Lions snapped a two-match winning streak to fall to 6-14 overall and 4-5 in SLC action, while SFA improves to 13-7 overall and 8-1 in conference action. This was the first meeting in Commerce between the two teams since 1987.
In the first set, the Ladyjacks jumped ahead to a 5-1 lead on a 4-0 run and then did not trail in the set as they led by as much as 11, closing it out on a kill by Kennedy Jones.
The Lions started the second set leading 6-2 and continued to lead till 11-7, when a 14-4 run by SFA pushed the Ladyjacks ahead for the rest of the set. Jordan Henderson delivered the kill on set point for SFA.
The third set began with the Lions leading 4-2, but then a 15-1 run followed by the Ladyjacks. Trailing 20-6, the Lions went on a 5-0 run and fought off two match points, but Kyanna Creecy posted a kill to secure the match for SFA.
Zoe Ruskofsky (Clovis, Calif.) had 10 kills for the Lions, while
Haley Mullaney (Victory Christian Academy) had 10 assists, and
Jade Washington (Waco – Midway) added nine digs.
