Four rushing touchdowns power Lion Football to a 40-10 win over Northwestern State

NATCHITOCHES, La. – Holding the Northwestern State Demons to just 10 points and outgaining them 532-190, the East Texas A&M University football team rolled to a 40-10 win on Saturday night at Turpin Stadium for the first win of the 2025 season.
 
The Lions won their first game of the season in Natchitoches for the second year in a row and are now 1-4 overall and 1-0 in Southland Conference play. East Texas A&M has started 1-0 in conference play for the third time in the Division I era. NSU falls to 1-4 overall and 0-1 in SLC action.
 
East Texas A&M held Northwestern State to just 10 points, which is the least number of points allowed since 2023 and the 30-point margin of victory, is the second highest in the Division I era as well.
 
After a missed field goal try by the Demons on the first drive of the game, the Lions took advantage with a nine-play 77-yard drive and EJ Oakmon (Pflugerville) rushed in a two-yard touchdown for the first points of the night. EJ OAKMON FIRST TOUCHDOWN HIGHLIGHT
 
On the second Lion offensive drive, Ozlo Rigby (Panama City, Fla.) drilled a 39-yard field goal to push the Lion lead up to 10-0 at the end of the first quarter. OZLO RIGBY FIELD GOAL KICK HIGHLIGHT
 
After a pair of punts, the Lions put together a 14-play 80-yard drive, and it was Oakmon that found the end zone once again. This time, he scored from five yards out. EJ OAKMON SECOND TOUCHDOWN HIGHLIGHT
 
The Demons stalled a Lion drive in the red zone with 1:48 left in the first half and the offense marched down the field on a 10-play 81-yard drive to score the first points of the game, which was a 30-yard field goal from Cooper Evans.
 
The Lions received the ball to start the second half and needed just six plays to drive down 91 yards and KJ Shankle (Fort Bend Travis) dove into the end zone for a 24-yard touchdown run. KJ SHANKLE TOUCHDOWN HIGHLIGHT
 
Following another punt by the Demons, the Lions found the end zone once again as Christian Jourdain (New Orleans) hauled in a 46-yard touchdown reception from Ron Peace (Malakoff). CHRISTIAN JOURDAIN TOUCHDOWN HIGHLIGHT
 
The Lions capped off a 21-0 third quarter with a 12-yard touchdown rush from Oakmon with 22 seconds left in the third quarter. He is the first Lion running back to rush three touchdowns in a game since 2021 and is tied for second most in a game in program history. EJ OAKMON THIRD TOUCHDOWN HIGHLIGHT
 
The final points of the night came off the leg of Rigby as he drilled a 47-yard field goal with 4:52 left in the game. The longest field goal for Rigby this season.
 
The Lions outgained the Demons, 532-190, in the game, including a 261-66 edge in rushing yards. Shankle led the way with 93 yards, while Oakmon had 75 yards to go along with three touchdowns.
 
In the passing game, Peace went 14 for 19 for a touchdown and one interception, totaling 268 passing yards. Devin Matthews (Seguin) led the way with 109 yards on four catches, while Jourdain had four catches for 64 yards.
 
Defensively, Kyree Anderson (Cy-Lakes) had team-best seven tackles, including 3.5 for a loss. He had a sack and a forced fumble as well. Lavon Williams (San Antonio – Roosevelt) posted seven tackles, while CJ Garnett (Keller Central) had an interception in the game.
