Lions sweep Privateers behind Campbell's double-double

NEW ORLEANS – A double-double from Gracie Campbell helped the East Texas A&M University volleyball team pick up a 3-0 win on Thursday night over New Orleans via set scores of 25-23, 25-21, 25-23, at the Human Performance Center.

The Lions have won two of their last three and are now 4-12 on the season, while being 2-3 in Southland Conference play, and have won three of last four over the Privateers, who fall to 6-12 overall and 1-4 in SLC play.

Four of the first five points of the match went to the Lions, but New Orleans came back to take a 6-4 lead. The Privateers had a lead as big as three, but then the Lions used a 6-2 run to jump ahead 21-18 late in the set. New Orleans stormed back once again to lead 23-22.

A kill by Peyton Roper (Converse – Judson) sparked a 3-0 scoring run as the Lions took the set on a block by Brooke Box (Klein Collins). FIRST SET WIN HIGHLIGHT

Both teams exchanged the lead to start the second set, being tied 10, but the Lions went ahead on a 3-0 run and did not trail again in the set as they closed out the set on an attacking error, holding a lead as big as five in the set. SECOND SET WIN HIGHLIGHT

The Lions won the first two points of the third set and never trailed in the set. As East Texas A&M inched closer to victory with a 23-18 lead, the Privateers made things interesting by pulling to within 24-23, but Navaeh Smith (San Antonio – O'Connor) clinched the win for the Lions with a kill.
