Hawaii pulls away from Lion Men's Basketball for a 100-74 win

HONOLULU – In a game that totaled 59 fouls and 86 free throw attempts, the Hawaii Rainbow Warriors pulled away for a 100-74 win over the East Texas A&M University men's basketball team on Sunday night inside the Bankoh Arena at the Stan Sherriff Center.
 
Hawaii set its program record for most free throws made and attempted, going 37 for 54 at the line, while the Lions went 22 for 32 at the line, which is the most attempts for East Texas A&M since the win over Abilene Christian last season.
 
The Lions fall to 1-2 on the season with the loss, while the Rainbow Warriors improve to 1-1 on the season, with Sunday being the home opener for Hawaii. The two teams are now 1-1 against each other over the past four seasons.
 
The first points of the game were scored by the Lions on a three-pointer, but Hawaii held East Texas A&M to just one more point for the next three minutes, taking a 10-4 lead.
 
A 7-0 run by the Lions helped them come within 14-13 with 10:19 left in the first half, but the Rainbow Warriors closed the half on a 18-3 run to lead 51-30 at the break.
 
The largest lead in the game for the Rainbow Warriors 33 points, which came at the 6:53 mark of the second half. Hawaii was led in scoring by both Hunter Erickson and Dre Bullock scoring 15 points each. The Lions allowed 100 or more points in game for the first time since 2020.
 
East Texas A&M had two players foul out of the game and two additional players were charged with four fouls.
 
Josh Taylor (Atlanta) was the leading scorer for the Lions with 15 points, while Ronnie Harrison (Forney) had team-best five rebounds.
 
Noah Pagotto (Wollongong, Australia) and London Fields (Tupelo, Miss.) scored nine points each. The Lions shot 41.5 percent from the field and 8 for 21 from deep.
