COMMERCE – Cora and
Nina Horvath combined for 35 points on Sunday afternoon as the East Texas A&M University women's basketball took an 81-42 win over the UT Dallas Comets on the Hunt Regional Healthcare Court in the Field House.
After the Lions led by as much as 11 in the first quarter, UT Dallas held East Texas A&M without a point for two minutes and 21 seconds to begin the second quarter and made it a 17-13 game.
The Lions responded by scoring the next nine and the scoring margin was not within single digits the rest of the game. The win moves the Lions to 2-1 on the season, while this game was an exhibition for the Comets, who begin their season next week.
Cora Horvath (Oberwart, Austria) led all Lion starters with 17 points and four rebounds, shooting 4 for 8 from the field, including 3 for 5 from deep, which were the only three three-pointers made by the Lions.
Nina Horvath (Oberwart, Austria) came off the bench and shot 6 for 10 from the field to go along with 6 for 6 shooting at the line for 18 points and three rebounds, while
Tiani Ellison (Durant, Okla.) scored 12 along with five rebounds, and
Reza Po (San Bruno, Calif.) added 11 points and five rebounds.
Ahmya Boyce (Newport News, Virginia) tallied nine points, five rebounds, seven assists, four steals, and two blocks. For the Comets, Anna Yellen led the way with nine points.
