COLLEGE STATION – Despite 23 points from
Ronnie Harrison, the East Texas A&M University men's basketball team fell 118-77 to the Texas A&M Aggies on Sunday afternoon at Reed Arena.
The Lions fall to 6-6 on the season, while the Aggies have won over the Lions for the third year in a row and are now 9-3 on the season. Sunday was the final non-conference game for East Texas A&M, who went 5-5 in its 10 non-conference games. The five non-conference wins is tied with the 2023-24 season for the most in the Division I era.
After the first eight points of the game were exchanged by both teams, the Aggies scored the next seven and 16 of the next 18 to build a 20-6 lead at the 13:06 mark of the first half.
The Aggies had a lead as big as 31 in the first half, but the Lions used a 9-0 run to cut the deficit down to 22 and scored four of the final six points of the first half to trail 56-35 at halftime. Texas A&M shot 7 for 12 from deep in the first half.
On the first offensive possession of the second half, Harrison (Forney) hit a three-point jumper to get the Lion deficit down to 18, which was the smallest lead for the Aggies in the second half as they scored the next four.
The Aggies ended the game on a 12-5 run over the final three minutes, extending their lead to game-high 44 points during that stretch.
Harrison led the Lions with 23 points as well as six rebounds, while
Damian Garcia (Houston – Dobie) added 10 points off the bench.
Michael Folarin (London, England) led the way with seven rebounds and added eight points as well.
For the Aggies, Rashaun Agee went 9 for 10 from the field for 21 points as well as eight rebounds. Texas A&M shot 65 percent in the game and grabbed 43 rebounds, while the Lions shot 34.8 percent and totaled 36 rebounds.
