SFA uses surge in second half to down Lion Men's Basketball

COMMERCE – The Stephen F. Austin Lumberjacks outscored the East Texas A&M University men's basketball team 36-16 in the second half on Monday evening on its way to a 75-48 win on Hunt Regional Healthcare Court at the Field House.
 
There were a total of 10 lead changes and five ties in the first half with the Lumberjacks holding a 39-30 lead at halftime. SFA had a lead as big as 27 in the second half, improving to 10-2 overall and 3-0 in Southland Conference play, while the Lions fall to 6-7 overall and 1-2 in Southland action.
 
Eight of the first 11 points were scored by the Lumberjacks, but then a 7-0 run followed for the Lions to take their first lead of the game. East Texas A&M did not have a lead bigger than two in the game.
 
With 3:34 left in the first half, SFA had a 28-27 lead, but then the next five were scored by SFA, who also scored the final six points of the game.
 
In the second half, a quick 6-0 run brought the Lions within 45-42 with 13:12 to play, but the Lions were held to just six more points the rest of the game.
 
Coming off the bench, Vinny Sigona (Prestonwood Christian Academy) totaled 13 points as well as two rebounds and two assists, while Ronnie Harrison (Forney) added 10 points and 10 rebounds for the first double-double of the season.
 
Lateef Patrick Jr. led SFA with 17 points. The Lumberjacks shot 41.3 percent from the field, while holding the Lions to shoot 35.3 percent. East Texas A&M went 0 for 8 at the line in the second half.
