Privateers drop Lion Women's Basketball, 78-52

NEW ORLEANS – Despite four East Texas A&M University women's basketball players scoring in double digits on Thursday night, the New Orleans Privateers collected a 78-52 win over the Lions at Lakefront Arena.
 
The Privateers swept the season series against the Lions and now improve to 3-13 in Southland Conference play and 3-22 overall. The Lions fall to 3-13 in conference play and 6-19 overall. Both teams are two games back of eighth place with the Lions having four games left in the season.
 
New Orleans led by as much as six in the first quarter and scored the final two points of the first to lead 19-14 and then held the Lions without a point for the first six minutes and 46 seconds of the second quarter, while pulling ahead 29-14, scoring the first 10 points of the second.
 
Nora Francois recorded a triple-double for the Privateers with 19 points, 19 rebounds, and 10 assists, while Jasmine Jones scored 11 and both Alexis Calderon and Tre'Miyah Berry scored 13 points off the bench. Brialle Washington added 10 off the bench as well.
 
The Privateers outshot the Lions, 43.8 percent to 32.8 percent, and had the 50-35 advantage in rebounding.
 
The Lions were led in scoring by Jamy De Kock (Woudrichem, The Netherlands), who scored 12 off the bench, while Hannah Humphrey (Lamar Consolidated) added 11 off the bench as well. Both Jordyn Newsome (Irving – MacArthur) and Cora Horvath (Oberwart, Austria) added 10 points each. Alva Hedrich (Muecke, Germany) had team-best 10 rebounds.
 
UP NEXT
The Lions continue the road trip at Southeastern, who clinched the Southland Conference title on Thursday. The Battle of Lions in Hammond is set for 1 p.m. on Saturday.
