HAMMOND, La. – TJ Thomas shot 70 percent from the field for 17 points on Saturday afternoon at the Pride Roofing University Center for the East Texas A&M University men's basketball team, who lost 83-65 at Southeastern Louisiana.
There were no lead changes in the game as Southeastern pulled ahead 11-2 to start the game and despite East Texas A&M going on a 10-2 run to come within 21-19 with 9:06 left in the first half, Southeastern scored the next six. SLU led 43-32 at the half and its largest lead in the game was 26 points.
Thomas (Memphis, Tenn.) went 7 for 10 from the field, including a pair of three-pointers and added a free throw for his team-best 17 points along with two rebounds, two steals, and an assist.
Off the bench,
Josh Taylor (Atlanta, Ga.) had 13 points and team-best seven rebounds, while both
Scooter Williams Jr. (Chattanooga, Tenn.) and
Yusef Salih (Gainesville, Va.) added 11 points each.
Southeastern's Jakevion Buckley, who has been named the Southland Conference Player of the Week for the last two weeks, scored 21 and had eight rebounds. Jeremy Elyzee tallied 20 points and four rebounds.
In the game, SLU shot 52 percent, while East Texas A&M shot 46 percent. Southeastern outrebounded East Texas A&M, 36-23, in the game.
SLU has won the last three meetings over East Texas A&M and is now 18-10 overall this season and 12-5 in Southland Conference play, while East Texas A&M is 3-25 overall and 1-16 in SLC action.
