ALGIERS, La. – The East Texas A&M University men's golf team climbed three spots on Tuesday to finish the Gulf Coast Collegiate in a tie for ninth place at the English Turn Golf Club.
The Lions entered the day in 12
th place, but rose to finish in a tie for ninth place with Arkansas-Pine Bluff totaling a team score of 896. East Texas A&M's score of 292 in the third round was tied for being the third-lowest in the 18-team field.
"I'm proud of the way we fought back today, but we set ourselves too far back after the first day," said director of golf
Brian Dolehide. "We were able to build some confidence in the final round and finish with one of the best rounds on the day! Looking forward to carrying the momentum into HCU next weekend."
ULM won the team title by five strokes over Central Arkansas, while Central Arkansas' Kalle Svederman and Noah Blaickner tied for the individual medal with a score of 213 each.
Janis Erll (Lich, Germany) turned in a top-20 finish for the Lions, being tied for 16
th with a score of 219 (77-73-69), mounting 24 spots on Tuesday.
Matt Walters (Ballito, South Africa) also finished in the top-20 with a score of 220 (70-76-74),
Nicke Kaajavirta (Kajaani, Finland) tied for 56
th with a score of 228 (79-74-75).
To round out the Lions,
Cooper Watt (Rockford, Ill.) tied for 61
st with a score of 229 (79-76-74) and
Sam Benson (Gilmer – New Diana) finished tied for 75
th with a score of 235 (82-76-77).

The Lions compete next week in Sugar Land at the Colin Montgomerie Invitational, hosted by HCU.
