ARLINGTON – Late-inning runs were the difference in both games for the East Texas A&M University softball team on Friday afternoon as the Lions won 3-1 over Prairie View A&M and fell 6-0 to UT Arlington at Allan Saxe Field.
Game One: EAST TEXAS A&M 3, PRAIRIE VIEW A&M 1
The Lions left eight runners on base through the first six innings of the game, but loaded the bases with no outs in the seventh as
KK Cosek (Helendale, Calif.) drew a walk,
Emma Rodrigues (Little Elm – John Paul II) was hit by a pitch, and
Maddie Cason (Honey Grove) reached on a bunt single.
Charli Anger (Lubbock – Cooper) brought home two Lion runners on a two-run single to center, plating Rodrigues and Cosek. Cason advanced to third on the play.
Following a Panther pitching change,
Tatum Wright (Frisco – Centennial) brought home Cason with a sacrifice fly to deep right field.

In the bottom of the seventh, the first two batters were retired in order, but Isabela Rodriguez and Kearstin Tinsley drew back-to-back walks. Rodriguez came around to score on a wild pitch and a throwing error, but the Lions got out of the inning with a pop out to second.
Julia Sanchez (The Kinkaid School) went the distance in the circle for the Lions, allowing no earned runs, while striking out five and walking seven. She is now 1-5 on the season and allowed just two hits in the game.
Offensively for the Lions, the top five batters in the Lion order had just one hit each as Rodrigues, Cason, Anger, Wright, and
Stephanie Tapia (Yuma, Ariz.) had a hit each in the game.
The Panthers left seven runners on base in the game. Brielle Moreno got the loss in the circle, allowing three earned runs without an out recorded in the seventh.
Game Two: UT ARLINGTON 6, EAST TEXAS A&M 0
Through the first six innings of the game, the Lions left six runners on base, while the Mavericks left five. Mia McNulty put the first run on the board for the UTA in the game with a solo home run to left center in the sixth.
Marley Neises followed with an infield base hit, then stole second, and came around to score on an RBI base hit to left by Mallory Stone. Emma Lopez hit a single to left, advancing to second, while Stone went to third on the hit.
Vanessa Soza brought home Stone on a sacrifice bunt, while Lopez stole home, and Soza scored on an RBI double down the left field line by Talia Maldonado, who scored on a one-run single by Kailee Bautista. After a pair of walks to load the bases, the Lions ended the inning with a line-out double play, getting the runner at second.
Kate Houser (Lorena) started the game in the circle for the Lions, tossing four shutout innings and struck out three.
Maddie Muller (Frisco – Memorial) got the loss in the circle, allowing three earned runs in 1.1 innings.
Rodrigues, Cason, Tapia, and
Aaliyah Wilcox (Covington, Ga.) had a hit each in the game for the Lions.
Bautista went 2 for 3 for the Mavericks, while Jaycee Knighton tossed the first inning in the circle for the Mavericks and Jessica Adams threw six shutout innings for the win.
