HAMMOND, La. – Playing the defending Southland Conference Tournament champions on the road to begin SLC play, the East Texas A&M University softball team lost both ends of the doubleheader by scores of 7-2 and 10-0 in five innings to Southeastern Louisiana on Friday evening at North Oak Park.
East Texas A&M starts SLC play with a record of 0-2 and is now 4-20 on the season, while Southeastern is 17-7 overall and 2-0 in SLC action.
Game One: SOUTHEASTERN 7, EAST TEXAS A&M 2
Southeastern left a runner on base in the first, but plated three in the bottom of the second on three hits and left one on base as well.
Maddie Watson doubled to right center with one out and then Colleen Kullivan drew a walk. Kailey Dixon singled to left center to load the bases and Shenita Tucker brought home Watson with an RBI single down the left field line. Shelby Morris drew a bases loaded, and Chloe Magee drove in Dixon with a sacrifice fly to left.
Southeastern attempted a double steal and East Texas A&M tagged out Tucker at third to end the inning.
After a scoreless third, Kulivan tripled to left center to lead off the fourth and came around to score on a one-run infield single by Dixon, who advanced to second on the play due to a throwing error. Dixon came around to score on a single in the infield by Morris.
Magee singled up the middle to continue the inning and Maria Detillier reached on an outfield fielding error as Morris scored and Magee advanced to third. Brilee Ford brought home Magee on an RBI groundout and East Texas A&M ended the inning with another groundout.
Being held without a baserunner through the first five innings of the game,
Hailey Montemayor (Lubbock – Monterrey) doubled to left to lead off the sixth. After an infield pop out,
KK Cosek (Helendale, Calif.) hit an RBI double to left, plating Montemayor.

Cosek advanced to third on a wild pitch and following an infield line out, she scored on a bunt single by
Maddie Cason (Honey Grove).

The Lions continued the inning with another base hit, but SLU got a groundout to end the inning. East Texas A&M totaled two runs and four hits in the inning and left two on base as well.
Eight different batters had a hit each in the game for Southeastern, while all four hits in the game for East Texas A&M came in the sixth.
Macie LaRue threw five shutout innings to start the game and returned into the game to throw the final 1.2 innings. She struck out nine and improves to 6-0 in the circle for Southeastern, while
Julia Sanchez (The Kinkaid School) was charged with five earned runs in the complete-game loss.
Game Two: SOUTHEASTERN 10, EAST TEXAS A&M 0 (Five Innings)
The first batters of the game got on base in the game for East Texas A&M, who had runners at second and third with no outs, but could not plate a run. In the bottom of the first, Morris was hit by a pitch, stole second, and after a strikeout, came around to score on a triple to right center by Detillier. East Texas A&M forced a pop out and a groundout to strand Detillier at third.
In the top of the second, the Lions had the bases loaded with one out, but a pop out and a strikeout kept the bases loaded to end the inning. Kulivan was hit by a pitch with an out in the bottom of the second as was Dixon to put two on with one out.
Tucker advanced both runners on a groundout and following a walk drawn by Morris, Magee drove in both Dixon and Kulivan with a two-run single up the middle.
Ford drew a walk to lead off the third and stole second. After a walk by Cydnee Schneider, Watson advanced both runners on a sacrifice bunt. Kulivan plated Ford on a sacrifice fly to center.
Southeastern plated six runs on four hits and an error in the fourth and left two on base as well. Detillier added a pair of RBIs on a two-run single to left, Schneider also hit a two-run base hit up the middle, while Brilee Broussard came in a pinch runner and scored on a fielder's choice hit by Kulivan, while Tucker drove in Watson on an infield single.
At the plate for Southeastern, both Magee and Detillier went 2 for 3 in the game. Five of the top six batters in the East Texas A&M order had a hit each in the game.
Maddie Muller (Frisco – Memorial) started the game for East Texas A&M, but was charged with the loss, allowing eight earned runs in 3.1 innings. Hailie Burns tossed a five-inning shutout in the circle for Southeastern, striking out four.
