NORMAN, Okla. – The No. 22 ranked Oklahoma Sooners tacked on three goals in the second half to down the East Texas A&M University soccer team 4-0 on Thursday night in front of a crowd of 3,211 fans at John Crain Field.
The Sooners came into the match being ranked No. 22 in the United Soccer Coaches poll and are now 3-0 on the season, having outscored their opponents, 12-2, while the Lions fall to 1-1 on the season.
After both teams combined for four saves on seven shots through the first 30 minutes, Oklahoma took the lead in the 30
th minute with a goal from Luciana Setteducate, assisted by Hadley Murrell.
The Sooners led 1-0 at the half, despite outshooting the Lions, 12-2, through the first 45 minutes.
Just 27 seconds into the start of the second half, Juliette Rayo found the back of the net to double the lead for Oklahoma. East Texas A&M surrendered an own goal in the 51
st minute.
In the 56
th minute, the Lions were called for a handball in the penalty box and Rayo converted the penalty kick to give Oklahoma a 4-0 lead.
Veronica Pacione (Birdville) played the first 56 minutes in goal for the Lions and made three saves.
Gillian McKenzie (Mesquite Horn) tallied four saves in the final 34 minutes, not allowing a goal either.
For the Lions, both
Mya Mitchell (Dallas – Mesquite Horn) and
Alana Lawless-Felarca (Dallas – Richardson) had a shot each in the match, with Mitchell's landing on goal and it was saved by Oklahoma's Caroline Duffy.
Oklahoma had the 24-2 advantage in shots and 6-1 edge in corner kicks.
