CORALVILLE, Iowa – A late run in the third set allowed the East Texas A&M University volleyball team to win a set over the Iowa Hawkeyes, who took the match 3-1 on Friday night at Xtream Arena via set scores of 25-16, 25-16, 23-25, and 25-21.
 
With the Hawkeyes leading the third set, 20-19, the Lions won the next three, but Iowa tied the set at 22 by taking the next two. After an Iowa service error, Rendi Fetty (Farmersville) served up an ace to give the Lions a pair of set points and the Lions took the set on a kill by Giana Brown (San Antonio – Brennan).
 
The Lions fall to 0-9 on the season, while Iowa improves to 8-3.
 
To begin the match, Iowa had a 9-3 lead in the first set and despite the Lions saving one set point, the Hawkeyes took the set on a service error.
 
Four of the first five points of the second set went to the Hawkeyes. The Lions came back to tie the set once, but Iowa closed out the second set on a 6-0 scoring run, clinching the set on a kill by Chard'e Vanzandt.
 
The Hawkeyes led 5-1 to start the fourth set and the despite a 3-0 run by East Texas A&M to tie the set at 21, the next four points went to Iowa, who won the match on a block by Claire Ammeraal.
 
Gracie Campbell (Klein Oak) totaled 13 kills to lead the Lions, while Katelyn Pritchard (McAllen) had 17 assists, and Savannah Jennings (Rosehill Christian) had 14. Jade Washington (Waco – Midway) tallied 18 digs and Fetty posted 10 digs.
