LAKE CHARLES, La. – The McNeese Cowgirls scored two goals in the final three minutes of Thursday night's match against the East Texas A&M University soccer team to turn in a 2-2 tie at the Cowgirl Field.
The Lions had the early 2-0 lead with a pair of goals in the first half, but McNeese tied the match late and secured the tie. The Lions fall to 3-5-2 on the season and 0-0-2 in Southland Conference play, while the Cowgirls are 1-7-3 overall and 0-1-1 in conference play.
"Tonight's tie was disappointing after being up 2-0 and in control of the match," said coach
Ashley Gordon. "Unfortunately, there were some hard lessons learned tonight."
Hannah Bell (Duncanville) scored the first goal of the match for East Texas A&M as she scored off an assist from
Mya Mitchell (Dallas – Mesquite Horn) in the 24
th minute. It was the third goal of the season for Bell.
Mitchell scored her sixth goal of the season in the 27
th minute off an assist from
Alana Lawless-Felarca (Dallas – Richardson).
The Cowgirls had just five shots in the second half, but two ended up in the back of the net. Ava Dubois scored a penalty kick goal in the 88
th minute, while Alexi Pitt tied the match in the 89
th minute off an assist from Riley Hicock.
The Lions had the shot advantage of 17-14 and 6-3 edge in corner kicks.
Veronica Pacione (Birdville) recorded four saves.
