PHOENIX – The Grand Canyon Lopes defended home court with a 3-0 win on Friday night over the East Texas A&M University volleyball team via set scores of 25-11, 25-13, and 25-19, at the Global Credit Union Arena.
The Lopes hit .363 in the match and remain undefeated on the season, being 4-0 with all four wins coming at home. The Lions fall to 0-4 on the season with Friday being their first road match of the season.
Both teams split the first 10 points of the match, but an 11-0 run followed for the Lopes, who had a lead as big as 15 in the set and closed it out 25-11, on a kill by Aubrey Goodere.
After the Lions took the first point of the second set, GCU won four of the next five. The second set was also tied at five, before a 12-2 run pulled the Lopes ahead, who used a Lion service error to take the second set.
In an evenly matched set to start the third, the Lions led 10-9, but the Lopes won the next five. Despite the Lions taking the next three, the Lopes won four of the last five points to win the match on a kill by Aubrey Bellus.
For the Lions,
Gracie Campbell (Klein Oak) totaled 10 kills, while
Giana Brown (San Antonio – Brennan) had five blocks,
Haley Mullaney (Victory Christian Academy) had nine assists, and
Jade Washington (Waco – Midway) led the way with 13 digs.
