SAN ANTONIO – On a rainy Sunday afternoon at Park West Athletics Complex, the East Texas A&M University soccer team fell 3-0 to the UTSA Roadrunners.
The Roadrunners jumped ahead in the sixth minute on a goal from Ava Jackson, with an assist from Kennedy Reed, while two goals came in the second half. Zoe May scored on an assist from Kameron Kloza in the 76
th minute and Isabel Peters added a goal in the 90
th minute.
The Lions were limited to just five shots, with only one landing on goal, which was saved by the Roadrunners' Jasmine Kessler. East Texas A&M falls to 3-4 on the season, while UTSA improves to 4-2-2 overall and 3-0 over the Lions over the last four seasons.
For the Lions,
Mya Mitchell (Dallas – Mesquite Horn) had two shots with
Makayla Gonzalez (South Grand Prairie) recording one save in the first half and
Gillian McKenzie (Mesquite Horn) picking up five saves in the second half.
"We competed today against a tough opponent in difficult weather conditions," said coach
Ashley Gordon. "We need to eliminate preventable goals. Outside of the first six min and the last 15 seconds of the match, we had some really positive moments on both sides of the ball including equally winning first and second balls in both halves."
"We will continue to work hard this week as we prepare for Oklahoma State."
