Washington notches 37 digs in loss to Lumberjacks

PHOENIX – Jade Washington recorded 37 digs for the East Texas A&M University volleyball team on Saturday afternoon in the Lions' straight set loss to Northern Arizona via set scores of 25-15, 25-18, 30-28, at the Global Credit Union Arena.
 
The Lumberjacks improve to 3-2 on the season, hitting .273 on Saturday afternoon, while the Lions hit .130 as they fell to 0-5 on the season.
 
NAU jumped out to a 5-1 lead and used an 8-0 run late in the set to take a 21-11 lead, closing out the first set on a kill by Hanah Stoddard.
 
In the second set, the Lions led 5-3, but the next four points went to the Lumberjacks, who pulled ahead 14-9 in the set. The Lions fought off three set points, but a kill from Stoddard clinched the second set for the Lumberjacks.
 
The Lions had the early advantage in the third set, leading 9-6 on a 6-1 run, but the Lumberjacks served back a 6-1 run to tie the set at 17. After a 4-1 run from the Lions, NAU came back to tie the set once again at 22.
 
Both teams exchanged the next 10 points as East Texas A&M had four chances to close out the set, but the Lumberjacks saved each one. After fighting off the first match point and tying the set at 28, the Lions fell in the match on an attacking error.
 
Along with 37 digs from Washington (Waco – Midway), Gracie Campbell (Klein Oak) recorded a double-double with 14 kills and 10 digs, while Katelyn Pritchard (McAllen) had 17 assists and Haley Mullaney (Victory Christian Academy) totaled 16.
 
Stoddard had a double-double for the Lumberjacks as well, totaling 17 kills and 15 digs.
