CORPUS CHRISTI – The 2025-26 season came to a close on Monday night for the East Texas A&M University men's basketball team with an 84-71 loss to the Texas A&M-Corpus Christi Islanders at the Hilliard Center.
The Lions end their season with a record of 11-21 overall and 6-16 in conference play. The six wins over Southland opponents is tied for the second most in a season since joining the conference.
The Islanders are 17-14 overall and 13-9 in conference play heading into the postseason. A&M-Corpus Christi will be the fourth seed in next week's eight-team conference tournament.
On Monday night, the Lions scored the first eight points of the game and had a lead as big as nine in the first half, but the Islanders came back to a 17-16 lead at the 11:39 mark as part of a 11-1 run.
The Islanders scored seven of the final eight points of the first half to lead by one at the break and led for all but 47 seconds in the second half. With 4:39 left in the game, the Lions came within 64-62, but then a 9-0 run followed by the Islanders.
Noah Pagotto (Wollongong, Australia) scored 17 points along with six rebounds, while
Vinny Sigona (Prestonwood Christian Academy) added 17 points off the bench.
Ronnie Harrison (Forney) scored 14 points as well.
Sheldon Williams scored 19 for the Islanders.
