Southeastern takes SLC-opening doubleheader over East Texas A&M

COMMERCE – In the Southland Conference play opening doubleheader, two-time defending conference tournament champion Southeastern Louisiana downed the East Texas A&M University softball team, 13-0 in five innings and 11-4, on Friday at the John Cain Family Softball Complex.
 
East Texas A&M falls to 0-2 in conference play and 5-20 overall following the two games on Friday, while Southeastern is 2-0 in conference play and 17-9 overall.
 
GAME 1: SOUTHEASTERN 13, EAST TEXAS A&M 0 (Five Innings)
Maria Detiellier hit a solo home run in the first inning, followed by a solo shot in the second by Brilee Ford and Shenita Tucker in the third.
 
Detillier hit her second home run of the game, a three-run shot in the third, and then Kailey Dixon hit an RBI triple, while Collin Kulivan drove in Dixon with an RBI single. Shelby Morris added a two-run double in the third as well.
 
Addison Contorno came in as a pinch hitter and had an RBI groundout in the fourth, while Veronica Puckett hit a two-run single and Katie Lott added a one-run double in the fifth.
 
East Texas A&M was held to just two hits. Hailey Montemayor (Lubbock – Monterrey) and Emma Rodrigues (Frisco – Little Elm) had a hit each in the game. Madison Kloepper (Llano) allowed four earned runs in two innings for the loss in the circle.
 
Hallie Burns got the win for Southeastern, tossing three shutout innings.
 
GAME 2: SOUTHEASTERN 11, EAST TEXAS A&M 4
Detillier hit her third home run of the day to start the scoring in game two, a two-run shot in the first. Tucker reached on a fielder's choice, followed by a base hit from Chloe Magee that drove in a run in the second.
 
In the third, Dixon recorded an RBI groundout, Tucker reached on another fielder's choice, while Morris hit a one-run double.
 
The first runs of the game for East Texas A&M came in the fourth as Isabella Arzola (Chino, Calif.) and Jaylin Olguin (Fontana, Calif.) scored on a wild pitch, while Tatum Wright (Frisco – Centennial) hit a sacrifice fly to plate Zoey Hipolito (Ontario, Calif.).
 
With two outs in the fifth, KK Cosek (Helendale, Calif.) hit a double to right center and then a double to left center followed by Arzola to plate Cosek.
 
Southeastern added three in the sixth as Ka'Lyn Watson drove in a run on an RBI base hit, followed by a one-run single from Blair Walsh, and Ford scored on a wild pitch. Cydnee Schneider had an RBI groundout in the seventh to plate Morris.
 
Cosek went 2 for 4 for the Lions. Avery Rohlman (Littleton, Colo.) got the loss in the circle, being charged with five earned runs on in three innings.
 
Southeastern's Macie LaRue threw the first three innings of the game, not allowing an earned run, but Bre Clark got the win, tossing four innings of one-run ball.
