SAN MARCOS – The East Texas A&M University women's golf rose a spot on the final day of the Southland Conference Championships to close out the 2025-26 season with a fifth-place finish at the Kissing Tree Golf Club.
The Lions came into the day in sixth and six strokes back of Lamar, but shot a team score of 298 on Wednesday to jump over the Cardinals. UTRGV edged out HCU by one stroke for the team conference championship. The Huskies had a one-stroke lead entering the final round of the tournament.
"This season had some tough stretches, but something that really impressed me about this group was they never gave up no matter where we were at on the leaderboard all season, said director of golf
Brian Dolehide. "I'm proud that we improved each round this week and we were able to move up on the leaderboard in the last few holes of the final round!"
Marie Baertz (Luxembourg) tied for 12
th to lead the team with a score of 223 (76-70-77). Both
Tais Moreno (Santa Cruz, Bolivia) and
Linnea Olsson (Beddingestrand, Sweden) tied for 16
th with scores of 224 each.
Playing the final tournament of her collegiate career,
Marie Naeher (Neuenbuerg, Germany) had a score of 232 for 29
th.
Gimena Errecart (Mar Del Plata, Argentina) came in as a substitute on Wednesday, totaling a score of 77.
HCU's Sara Pihlajamaki ran away with the individual medal, winning by five strokes with a three-round score of 211.
