COMMERCE – East Texas A&M University has appointed Michael Shedd as the next head coach of the Lion women's golf program.
 
Shedd arrives at East Texas A&M following a stint as the head women's golf coach at Indian Hills Community College. Tasked with starting a brand-new collegiate program, Shedd guided the Warriors to top 15 finishes at the NJCAA Division I National Championships in both seasons of the program's existence.
 
"Michael is a proven program builder who brings a strong work ethic and championship credentials to East Texas A&M," said Director of Athletics Jim Curry. "His ability to guide a women's golf program from start-up to a consistent, highly ranked winner in just a few short years speaks highly to his vision and leadership capabilities. We are thrilled to welcome Michael and his family to East Texas and excited for the future of East Texas women's golf under his direction."
 
In just two seasons at Indian Hills, the Warriors spent multiple weeks ranked among the nation's top 10 and captured eight team tournament titles, highlighted by the 2026 NJCAA Division I Midwest District Championship.
 
The program finished the 2024-25 season ranked No. 14 nationally before climbing to No. 11 in the final 2025-26 rankings after placing 12th at the NJCAA Division I National Championships. During the program's first two seasons, several student-athletes Shedd coached went on to transfer to NCAA Division I and Division II programs.

In the classroom, the program posted a 3.23 cumulative grade point average.
 
Prior to being named the inaugural women's golf coach at Indian Hills, Shedd served as the head men's and women's golf coach at Lyon College in Batesville, Arkansas. He oversaw all facets of both programs, including recruiting, budgeting, scheduling and organizing home tournaments.
 
Both teams finished among the top seven at the American Midwest Conference Championships, while three student-athletes earned 2023 Daktronics-NAIA Scholar-Athlete honors.
 
Shedd's first head coaching position in golf came at Rivercrest High School in Wilson, Arkansas, where he spent four seasons and led the program to two state tournament appearances. He also served as the volunteer interim golf coach at Trumann Public School, guiding the Wildcats to their first state tournament appearance in more than 30 years.
 
He has also been involved with First Tee, a youth development organization that teaches life skills and character development through the game of golf. Additionally, he worked under former PGA Tour professional and University of Arkansas All-American Deane Pappas.
 
As a collegiate golfer at Lyon College, Shedd competed for three seasons and recorded multiple top-five and top-10 finishes. A native of Manila, Arkansas, he earned all-conference, all-region and all-state honors at Manila High School.
 
Shedd earned a Master of Science in sports administration and a Bachelor of Science in education and physical education from Arkansas State University.
 
Shedd and his wife, Brittney, have two children, daughter Melanie and son Luke.
