For the third consecutive season, Texas A&M University-Commerce is headed to the NCAA Division II Playoffs. The Lions have officially received an NCAA Division II Playoff bid, being tabbed as the fifth seed in Super Region Four.
This is your one stop information source for all things related to the Lions’ 2017 NCAA playoff berth. This will provide as much initial clarity as possible, and will be updated with information in the next 24 hours as more specific communication from NCAA representatives and Winona State University becomes available.
How do the playoffs work?
The NCAA Division II Football Committee announced the field of 28 teams for the 2017 NCAA Division II Football Championship with seven teams filling out each of the Super Region brackets. 12 first-round games will be conducted on the campus of the higher seeded institution in each region. In addition, one team per super regional has earned a first-round bye.
The first-round winners will all advance to the second round with games on the campus of the higher seeded competing institutions. Second-round winners will meet in the quarterfinals at various campus sites. Quarterfinal winners will advance to play in the semifinals on the campus of the higher seeded competing institutions. The championship game will be played December 16, at 4 p.m. at Sporting Park in Kansas City and will be broadcast live on ESPN2 HD/ESPN3.
Who else is in our region?
The No. 1 seed in Super Region IV is Central Washington. CWU will have a bye in the first round and will play the winner of our game in the regional semifinal. The other two first-round matchups are:
- Colorado State-Pueblo (No. 7) at Minnesota State (No. 2)
- Sioux Falls (No. 6) at Midwestern State (No. 3)

Founded in 1858, Winona State University is a comprehensive, regional public university with over 8,000 students. The oldest member of the Minnesota State Colleges and Universities System, Winona State offers 80 undergraduate, pre-professionals, licensure and graduate programs on its three campuses: the original Main Campus in Winona, the West Campus in Winona, and Winona State University-Rochester Center.
The Warrior football team is a member of the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference and finished with a 10-1 overall record, including 5-0 at home. Like the Lions, they were runners-up (to Minnesota State, seeded second in Super Region IV).

How much are tickets?
Ticket information will be confirmed when announced by Winona State. A&M-Commerce will have 500 seats reserved for Lion fans directly behind the visitor bench.

Yes. The Lion Sports Radio Network – 89.9 KETR - will broadcast the game with Charlie Chitwood (Play-by-Play) and Brock Callaway (Color) on the call. Pre-game begins 30 minutes prior to kickoff. Lions Roar Weekly Radio Show will air one hour prior to kickoff. You can stream the broadcast at

Traveling South on Highway 61
Follow Highway 61 South into Winona. Proceed to the fifth stoplight (at Huff Street). Take a left turn onto Huff Street. (You will see a sign that says “Winona State University.”) Follow Huff Street to the next stoplight and take a right onto Sarnia Street. Go three blocks to a 4-way stop and take a left onto Main Street. Go two blocks to Mark (11th) Street and take a left onto Mark. The entrance to the Purple and Gold Parking Lots are on the right.
Traveling West on I-90
Take Interstate 90/94 West to La Crosse, Wisconsin, and into Minnesota. Take the “Winona” exit onto Highway 61 and follow this into Winona. Stay on Highway 61 North until you reach the stoplight at Huff Street. (You will see a sign that says “Winona State University”). Turn right onto Huff Street. Follow Huff Street to the next stoplight and take a right onto Sarnia Street. Go three blocks to a 4-way stop and take a left onto Main St. Go two blocks to Mark (11th) Street and take a left onto Mark. The entrance to the Purple and Gold Parking Lots are on the right.
Traveling East on I-90
Take I-90 East to the Highway 43 North exit (#252.) Turn left onto Highway 43 which will bring you into Winona. At the stoplight, turn left onto County 17 (Homer Road) and go until you reach the next stoplight. Turn left onto Highway 61 North and follow until you reach the next stoplight at Huff Street. (You will see a sign that says “Winona State University.”) Turn right onto Huff Street. Follow Huff Street to the next stoplight and take a right onto Sarnia Street. Go three blocks to a 4-way stop and take a left onto Main Street. Go two blocks to Mark (11th) Street and take a left onto Mark. The entrance to the Purple and Gold Parking Lots are on the right.

There are several parking lots in the areas surrounding both Altra Federal Credit Union Stadium/Loughrey Field and Memorial Hall.
