Caid Faske

Caid Faske came to A&M-Commerce in the spring of 2015 as the defensive line coach for the Lions.

During the 2017 National Championship season, Faske’s defensive line was one of the top units in the country. The Lions had best pass defense in the Lone Star Conference and was second in rushing defense and led the LSC and were 26th in the nation in total defense. The team finished 20th in the nation in red zone defense and held opponents to just 3.1 yards per carry. One of the top teams in the country in terms of sacks, the Lions had five different lineman record at least three sacks, and had three with at least five sacks. Norman Moimoi led the team with 6.5 sacks.

Under Faske, Michael Onuoha was named First Team All-LSC, recording five sacks, 12 tackles for loss, a forced fumble and 56 total tackles. DD Fletcher was named Second Team All-LSC, posting three sacks and six tackles for loss. Peyton Searcy was an Honorable Mention All-LSC selection, posting four sacks and 10 tackles for loss.

During the 2016 season under Faske, A&M-Commerce ranked fourth in the LSC in rush defense, holding runners to less than four yards per carry. The team finished second in the conference and 23rd in the nation in red zone defense. The team was 15th overall in scoring defense and the team was second in the nation in defensive touchdowns scored. Five different lineman recorded at least two sacks and four had at least five tackles for loss. Two linemen recorded an interception, helping the Lions rank fourth in the nation in interceptions and first overall in takeaways. 

Under Faske's coaching, Tavita Faaiu led the team with 12 tackles for loss and eight sacks, garnering himself First Team All-Super Region and First Team All-LSC honors. Kieston Carter led the LSC and was sixth in the nation with four fumble recoveries, helping the Lions lead the nation in turnovers, garnering Honorable Mention All-Conference honors. Michael Onuoha and Adam Sagapolu also received Honorable Mention All-Conference recognition.

Faske helped produced one of the best defensive line units in the nation in 2015, helping A&M-Commerce have one of the top rush defenses in the country (23rd nationally). Under Faske’s direction, A&M-Commerce ranked first in the LSC in Rush Defense, first in the LSC in Scoring Defense, first in the LSC in Total Defense,  and second in Sacks.

During his first season with the Lions, Faske was instrumental in the development of one of the top defensive line units in the nation. Faske coached two top All-LSC performers in first team All-LSC defensive lineman Toni Pulu and second team All-LSC defensive lineman Tyree Barton. Pulu also received second team All-Region after the 2015 season. A pair of defensive linemen in Kieston Carter and Tre’Von Taylor, were also named to the honorable mention All-LSC team.

Prior to his move to Commerce, Faske spent part of the spring of 2015 at North Texas as a defensive assistant, assisting with recruiting and helping coach the defensive line.
 
Before North Texas, Faske spent three seasons at LSC rival West Texas A&M coaching the Buffs' defensive line and recruiting the West Texas area.
 
Faske joined the coaching staff after playing for the Buffs as his playing career was cut short due to health issues.  During his first year on the staff, Faske coached three first team all-conference defensive linemen, including defensive tackle Aaron Wampler and All-American defensive ends Ethan Westbrooks and Tyrell Higgins in 2012.
 
Under his tutelage in 2012, Faske helped mold Westbrooks into leading the nation with 19.5 sacks as he was the Daktronics National Defensive Player of the Year.  The WT Defense had 59 sacks as a team to lead the nation.  A&M-Commerce head coach, Colby Carthel, was the defensive coordinator for the Buffs that season.
 
Westbrooks returned to the Buffs in 2013 and again was named to the All-American team. Faske also coached two All-LSC performers in LaPear Willrich and Alex Tucci.
 
 In 2014, LaPear Willrich, Alex Tucci, Iosia Iosia were All-LSC performers for the Buffs under Faske’s guidance.
 
All-told, Faske has coached 13 all-conference players, three All-Americans, multiple All-Region selections and a National Defensive Player of The Year in his 5 year coaching career.
Faske will also be in charge of recruiting the Fort Worth area.
 
Faske attended Bushland High School where he was an all-district offensive and defensive lineman as a senior.  As a junior, he helped lead the team to a 15-1 record and a state championship berth.  He graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Sports Exercise Science from West Texas A&M.
 
A native of Bushland, Texas, Faske is married to the former Shylo Manasco.
