Cameron Rogers joined the Lion football coaching staff to start the 2017 season as a linebacker assistant/SAMs coach.
During the 2017 National Championship season, the linebacking unit had four of the top six tacklers for the team's championship caliber defense. Under Rogers and linebacker coach Michael Conrad, Brucks Saathoff was named First Team All-Lone Star Conference, finishing fifth in the LSC with 101 tackles. Kieston Carter was named Second Team All-LSC while Neema Behbahani and Travon Blanchard were both named Honorable Mention All-LSC.
The Lions sported one of the top defenses in the nation, finishing 9th in the country in interceptions, 11th in defensive passing efficiency, 13th in tackles for loss, 15th in scoring and 20th in both red zone defense and sacks. They led the LSC in turnovers forced.
Prior to his coaching career, Rogers was a standout linebacker under coach Colby Carthel. He was twice named to the All-Lone Star Conference teams. He was a part of the Lions’ winning three consecutive LSC Championships, and helped the team win its first playoff game since the 1991 season.
Rogers graduated from A&M-Commerce with a Bachelor of Science degree in Sports & Recreation Management in May 2017.
