    Lion Leadership & Development Coordinator
Joey Chastain joined the Lion coaching staff as the Coordinator of Leadership and Development to begin the 2017 season. He hearned his associate degree in Fire Science and Human Resource Management and his bachelor’s degree in Kinesiology.
 
Chastain retired from the US Air Force after 20-plus years of service. He served as an Assistant Fire Chief for 16 years before transitioning to the First Sergeant Special Duty for his final four. He was stationed in four different continents and deployed seven times in support of four major military campaigns. 
 
Chastain was also a volunteer high school baseball coach (Aviano HS, Italy), high school basketball coach (Chugiak HS, Alaska), and was named the National Athletic Youth Sports Coach of the Year for 2012 in Europe.
 
Chastain was a member of the All Air Force Softball team from 2007-2015 and a member of the All Armed Forces Softball team in 2010 and 2015. He was selected as the Pacific Air Forces Male Athlete of the Year in 2003, and was named Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson’s First Sergeant of the Year in 2015.
 
He is married to his wife of 18 years, Wendy, and they have two children: Coltan and Kayla.
