John Jones

John Jones serves as the Assistant Offensive Line Coach for the Lions. He has collegiate and high school coaching experience.

Jones was hired in July 2018 as the Assistant Offensive Line Coach at Texas A&M University-Commerce. In 2017, he was the Offensive Line Coach, Run Game Coordinator, Special Team Coordinator, and Running Back Coach at 3A Green Oaks Performing Arts Academy in Shreveport, Louisiana. He had four offensive lineman and one running back receive all-district honors.  He was an Assistant Coach for the Cedar Hill High School Football Program from 2015-2016. During his tenure, the Longhorns had 20 wins in the 2015 and 2016 seasons, both of which included deep state playoff runs. After his playing career at Baylor University, John was a Student Coach for the 2012 Baylor Bears Spring football practices.
 
As a college athlete, Jones played in 37 games on the offensive line at Baylor from 2007-11. In his time in Waco, the Bears experienced an exceptional turnaround, as Jones' final game was an Alamo Bowl victory, which was Baylor's first bowl win in 19 years. In his time with the Bears, Jones helped block for Heisman Trophy winner Robert Griffin III and Art Briles’ Baylor's record-breaking offense.  

In high school, Jones played at Cedar Hill High School and was a two-year letter winner, two-year starter and two-time All-District offensive lineman. He helped lead Cedar Hill (2006) to their first state championship in the school’s history. In his senior year, Jones was named All-State, All-Region, All-Area, and All-District for the 16-0 Longhorns. He was a three-star prospect on Rivals, ESPN, and Scout recruiting sites. He also was a Top 100 prospect in the state of Texas and one of the top 100 offensive guards in the nation. Jones had 15 scholarship offers from which to choose from, but committed to Baylor University. 
 
Jones received his Bachelor’s Degree from Baylor University (2011).  He is single and enjoys spending time with family and friends.
