Tracy Welch

Tracy Welch

Tracy Welch is entering his second year as Director of Football Operations. He recently retired as the winningest football coach in Lake Worth High School history (35-23). Prior to LWHS, he served as the Associate Athletic Director, Assistant Head Football Coach, and Offensive Coordinator at Copperas Cove High School for 24 years (193-84-1).

In 2003, Welch was named AFLAC National Assistant Coach of the Year

In 1993, Welch served as Assistant Offensive Line Coach at Kansas State, who were the 1993 Copper Bowl Champions. The Wildcats were ranked 18th nationally (9-2-1).

In addition, he served as offensive coordinator and offensive line coach at Fort Scott Community College (Kansas) from 1988-1993. During his tenure at FSCC, he helped produce three consecutive bowl appearances (RC Cola Bowl, Midwest Bowl, and the Valley of the Sun Bowl) and his offenses were at the top of the Kansas Jayhawk Community Conference every year. 

Throughout Welch's football coaching career, he has been blessed with some very influential mentors. Bill Snyder (winningest coach in KSU history and AFCA Hall of Famer), and Jack Welch (winningest coach at both Fort Scott CC and Copperas Cove High School). His total coaching record as a head and assistant coach is an impressive 270-130-2.

Welch played college football at Kansas Wesleyan and Fort Scott CC under his brother Jack, and Pittsburg State University for legendary coach Dennis Franchione.  He was a two-sport letterman at Kansas Wesleyan in football and baseball. He was also the starting quarterback at Fort Scott CC, where he received Academic All-American honors and Male Athlete of the Year.

He also served as the head track & field coach at FSCC and Copperas Cove. Fort Scott CC won the KJCCC championship and Copperas Cove finished as district champions, placing third overall in the 5A State Track Meet, while the 4x100 meter relay team had the fourth fastest time in the nation (40.53).   

Welch received his Associate of Arts degree (1987) from Fort Scott Community College, Bachelor’s degree from Pittsburg State (1990) and his Master’s degree from Texas A&M University-Central Texas (1999). 

Tracy and his wife Sheri have 3 children: Kaylee Joleen (24), Caleb Thomas (21) and Matthew Hunter (19). Both Caleb and Matthew are currently students at A&M-Commerce. Sheri is the Director of Elementary Curriculum at Azle ISD. Tracy and Sheri are members of First Baptist Church of Saginaw. Tracy has served as a deacon and past president of the Lion’s Club.
