North Texas State 12 - East Texas State 6

Seven thousand rain-soaked fans saw the powerful North Texas State Eagles defeat a game East Texas State eleven 12-6 in the annual gridiron classic at Lion Field November 22.

In their thirteenth annual clash since 1932 to decide the Lone Star Conference title, the long-time rivals were forced to fight through mud and slosh for every yard with rain in their faces most of the four periods. An early Eagle touchdown in the second period was matched by the Lions and the under-rated Berrymen fought back to the Denton one-yard line a few minutes later before losing the ball on downs. A 60-yard run by Bill Cromer in the fourth period put the Eagles in the lead and they held on until the final gun against a battling bunch of East Texas Lions who were after a share of the conference title.

Loss of the annual Eagle-Lion classic pushed East Texas back into a tie with Southwest Texas for second place in the Lone Star Conference standings and gave North Texas a perfect record for the title. However, the outcome depended largely on the number of breaks, since both teams had an unwelcome foe—bad weather. Trinity finished fourth, followed by Stephen F. Austin in fifth, Sam Houston in sixth, and the University of Houston last.
