After sporting the best record in Texas collegiate football, the East Texas State Lions were defeated by an inspired Southwest Texas State Bobcat team 20 to 7 before a homecoming crowd at San Marcos November 8.

Although the Lions took the lead in the second period when Cargo Batchelor tossed an aerial to Ramey, they were outplayed throughout the game. East Texas made ten first downs to seven for the Southwest Texas eleven. They outgained the Bobcats in passing 135 yards to 14, but the San Marcos team ran up 170 yards net rushing compared to 49 net for the Lions.
