Hardin Indians Lose Scalps To Lions 25-13

The East Texas State Lions sent the hitherto undefeated Hardin College Indians back to the reservation with a 25-13 defeat trailing after them. The Lions scored in every period, but could add only one extra point to the four touchdowns. In the first quarter Hardin fumbled on their own 25 and the Lions recovered. From there Bill Engle tossed his first TD pass to end Joe Murphy for 25 yards and a touchdown. After picking up three first downs in the second quarter, Engle hit Bud Saunders on the Hardin 9 yard line. The Lions moved the ball five yards on the ground and then Engle hit LaCamp with a four yard toss for another score. With a 12-0 lead at the half time, East Texas was quick to add another 6 points in the third period, when Engle hit Murphy with a 20 yard heave. In the fourth period J. D. Roland demonstrated some beautiful broken field running and went 82 yards for a Hardin score. East Texas added their last score in the fourth period when Charles Stewart set up his own touchdown by running over and through the Indians on a 43 yard gallop. With the ball deep in Indian territory the Lions moved to the one yard line. From there Stewart crashed over, and the try for the extra point was good. Hardin moved to the Lion 7 and from there Roland hit Tom Collins with a pass for the score. The extra point try was good, but the Lions won over the undefeated Indians 25-13.
