AS QUICK as a cat, ET's Lions leaped to a 7-0 lead and then went on to claw Lamar Tech 48-0. Wizard Quarterback James Gray led the Lions' attack as he unleashed his magical powers in the form of rifle passes and deceptive ball-handling behind a front of solid-socking linemen. Gray passed for a pair of counters and turned loose a trio of high- stepping halfbacks to rip Lamar's defense to shreds. Halfbacks Marvin Brown, George Riley and Judd Ramsey accounted for 143 yards and four touchdowns. Brown also hauled in a pass for a score from 58 yards out. Lamar Tech's great little 144-pound halfback, Sammy Carpenter, was held to a gain of 8 yards in 16 carried by ET's massive forward wall, led by Ashley and Crump. A crowd of 4500 fans came to its feet with the game only 34 seconds old when Brown took a hand-off on the first offensive play and skirted 16 yards for a score. The remainder of the first quarter was a scoreless duel but ET opened the stops in the second quarter when Gray tossed two touchdown passes. This produced the first conference victory and put fear in the remaining teams slated for the Lions in Lone Star play.
