The Texas A&M
University-Commerce volleyball team closed out the DBU Invitational
with wins over Southern Arkansas (25-18, 25-19, 25-22) and
Southwest Baptist (27-25, 21-25, 25-18, 23-25, 15-6) on Saturday.
The two wins extend the A&M-Commerce winning streak to seven
for its longest winning streak since the 2002 season.
A&M-Commerce (11-3) began the day with its seventh win of the
season in straight sets with a victory over the Muleriders of
Southern Arkansas. In the win, senior Alyssa
Oberle and freshman Rachel Robertson led
an A&M-Commerce attack with eight kills. As a team, the Lions
had just 11 hitting errors as they hit at a .218 clip. The
A&M-Commerce front line contributed seven blocks to the win,
including two block solos and block assist by Robertson. Senior
Lauren Flynn added 18 digs and senior
Perla Faudoa added 28 assists in the win.
Southern Arkansas hit.098 in the loss and got a match-high 13 kills
from Danielle Sneed in the loss.
En route to a 25-18 win in the opening set, Robertson had four
kills as the Lions hit .258. A five block effort in the second set
and five-different players recorded a kills as the Lions won the
second set by a 25-19 margin. A&M-Commerce closed out the match
with a 25-22 victory in the third set and Oberle and senior Amy
Addison had five and four kills, respectively.
The Lions closed out the day with its first victory in five sets in
2009 with a 27-25, 21-25, 25-18, 23-25, 15-6 win over Southwest
Baptist.
Four Lions had double-digit kills including a match-high 24 from
junior Naomi Mays. Senior Amy

double of the season with 15 kills and 22 digs in the win. Also
with double digit kills were freshmen Morgan
Moeller added 14 and 10, respectively. Senior Perla Faudoa
added 58 assists and senior Lauren Flynn paced
four Lions with double digit digs with a season-high 37.
A&M-Commerce out hit SBU by a .216 to .159 margin in the win,
including a decisive .348 to -.045 margin in the fifth and deciding
set.
A six kill, seven-dig effort in the opening set by Addison led the
Lions to a 27-25 win. A&M-Commerce dropped the second set;
however, Mays had seven kills. The Lions bounced back to take the
third set with seven more kills from Mays, six from Moeller. Flynn
added 12 digs and Faudoa added two service aces and five assists.
In the fourth set, the Lions hit .261 but the Bearcats hit at a
.324 clip to tie the match at two sets apiece. In the fifth and
deciding set, A&M-Commerce raced out a 6-1 advantage as they
took advantage of three SBU attack errors and a pair of kills from
junior Terra Ousley. The Lions closed out the match with a two
kills by Mays, two more from Ousley and a service ace by
Rachel Robertson.
A&M-Commerce will host Southern Arkansas on Tuesday at 7 pm at
the A&M-Commerce Field House. Admission for adults is $5,
students are $3 and for A&M-Commerce students it is free.
