The Texas A&M University-Commerce volleyball team extended its winning streak to eight with a straight-set win, 25-18, 25-22, 32-30, over Southern Arkansas at the A&M-Commerce Field House.
The Lions (12-3) were led by senior Alyssa Oberle and freshman Rachel Robertson, who had 13 and 10 kills in the eighth straight-set win on the season. Junior setter Rachel Shelton had a career-high 28 assists and seniors Lauren Flynn and Amy Addison added 21 and 15 digs, respectively.
Southern Arkansas (1-14) was led by Danielle Sneed and Maggie Glover, who had 13 and 12, kills, respectively.
On the strength of a raucous crowd of 187, which included a Go Lions section of Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity, the Lions raced out to a 9-2 advantage in the opening set. A&M-Commerce took advantage of five attack errors by the Lady Muleriders down the stretch to take the opening set by a 25-18 margin.
In the second set, the Lions jumped out to a 10-3 lead on four kills by Oberle and closed out the set with four kills by Robertson en route to a 25-22 victory.
A&M-Commerce clinched the match with a 32-30 win in the third set. Senior Perla Faudoa entered the match for the first time with the Lions, trailing 19-17. The Juarez, Mexico native made an immediate impact with an assist on kills by Amy Addison and Terra Ousley and a dump kill by herself tied the score at 20. The two teams exchanged the lead until Ousley and Morgan Moeller combined on a block and Ousley recorded her third kill of the match to seal the Lions victory.
The Lions will now turn their attention to the Lone Star Conference, starting with a contest against Texas A&M-Kingsville on Thursday at 7 pm.
