Inclement weather halted the
rescheduled game for three hours between Texas A&M
University-Commerce and Southwestern Oklahoma State on Sunday
afternoon. When the weather settled, it was visiting Southwestern
Oklahoma State, who prevailed in a 24-10 win over
A&M-Commerce.
After thunderstorms on Saturday
forced the game to be moved to Sunday, it was the final 12:06 of
the game that provided ample fireworks for the last two days.
With Southwestern Oklahoma State
leading 17-3, the game was halted at the 12:06 mark of the fourth
quarter, the game was suspended due to weather. When play resumed,
three hours later, both teams saw the pendulum of momentum swing
each way.
Southwestern Oklahoma State (2-5,
2-2 LSC North) quarterback Dustin Stenta completed 19 of 39 passes
for 223 yards and a touchdown. He also ran the 11 times for 76
yards and a touchdown. The Bulldogs outgained the Lions by a 414 to
321 margin in the win.
A&M-Commerce (2-6, 1-3 LSC
North) quarterback Adam Farkes completed 21 of 39 passes and
freshman wide receiver Kenzee Jackson had 10 catches for 101 yards.
Junior defensive lineman Tramaine Williams had six tackles,
including 2.5 for loss and a 30-yard fumble recovery for a
touchdown.
On the second play, after the
delay, the Lions' Michael Cleveland forced Stenta to fumble
the wet pigskin in the air. An alert teammate Tramaine Williams
picked the ball up and raced 30 yards to cut the deficit to 17-10
with 11:17 left in the contest.
Next, an energized Lions'
defense forced a three and out of the SWOSU offense. Next, the
tandem of Adam Farkes and Kenzee Jackson caught fire. The two moved
the Lions down to the SWOSU 35-yard line. Facing a third and three,
the two hooked up for what appeared to be the game-tying touchdown.
A holding call on the Lions kept the points off the board. On the
ensuing play, Farkes found an open receiver, who dropped the pass
to force A&M-Commerce to punt.
The Lions forced the Bulldogs to
punt on their next possession. Next, the exchange between Farkes
and the Lions' ball carrier led to a fumble that was promptly
recovered by the visitors. Three plays later, Stenta ran 27 yards
for an insurance touchdown and put the host Bulldogs up 24-10.
Farkes managed to move the Lions down the field before being
intercepted in the back of the end zone.
Following a missed field goal by
A&M-Commerce, midway through the first quarter, Southwestern
Oklahoma State went ahead on a 21-yard field goal for a 3-0
advantage.
The Lions tied it on the strength
of sophomore running back London Hamilton, who ran the ball
six-straight times down to the SWOSU 4. A&M-Commerce tied it at
3 with 12:52 left in the opening half.
The game remained tied until Sienta
completed a 53-yard touchdown pass to Jordan Davis for the go-ahead
score with 4:41 left in the third quarter. The Bulldogs added to
its lead when they capitalized on an A&M-Commerce turnover.
Isaac Tucker broke free and ran it 29 yards to extend the lead to
17-3.

Oklahoma to face Central Oklahoma on Saturday, Oct. 30 at 2
