Lions Win in Four Over Arkansas-Monticello

For the second-straight day, the Texas A&M University-Commerce volleyball team won in four sets. After defeating Cameron on Sunday, just a little over 24 hours later, the Lions defeated host Arkansas-Monticello on Monday night, 20-25, 25-19, 25-18, 25-22. It is the fourth-straight match that A&M-Commerce has played that was decided in four sets.

A&M-Commerce (12-12) was led by the play of senior setter Rachael Shelton (pictured), who came off the bench in the fourth set. With the set tied at 11, the Royse City native and the Lions built a two-point advantage and never trailed for the remainder of the set. The senior had three crucial assists and the attack of Kayla Bond, Morgan Moeller and Rachel Robertson rose to the occasion.

All three had double-digit kills in the win. Robertson led the attack with 15 kills and Bond and Moeller had 13 and 10 kills, respectively. Shelton finished the match with 14 assists and two service aces; plus sophomore Reagan Hayes had 16 digs for the Lions. Led by senior Naomi Mays who had three blocks and three service aces, the Lions had eight blocks and seven service aces.

Southern Arkansas (2-22) was out hit by the Lions, .217 to .103 in the loss. Monica Perkins-Miller, who had 14 kills, led the Blossoms' attack and teammate MacKenzie Hubbard had a double double with 13 digs and 12 kills.

The Lions return to the rigors of the Lone Star Conference with a trip to East Central on Thursday at 7 p.m. and at Southeastern Oklahoma on Saturday at 2 p.m.
