The Texas A&M University-Commerce volleyball team posted a 25-16, 25-18, 25-23 win over Texas A&M-International on Wednesday night at the A&M-Commerce Field House.
A&M-Commerce (13-14) sophomore Rachel Robertson and freshman Kayla Bond led an attack that out hit the Dustdevils by a .194 to -.020 margin. Robertson and Bond each had 11 kills in the win. Sophomore Morgan Moeller added a match-high 13 digs and freshman setter Jordan Neal had a hand on 33 assists and nine digs.
Texas A&M-International (1-23) was led by Alexandria Montemayor, who had seven kills and 10 kills to pace the Dustdevils.
The opening set was tied three times, including at 6-6 before a five-point spurt put the Lions ahead for the remainder of the set. During the five-point spurt, the Lions capitalized on a pair of TAMIU hitting errors and Bond and senior Terra Ousley teamed up on a pair of blocks. A&M-Commerce led for the remainder of the set to take a one-set lead.
In the second set, sophomore Reagan Hayes put the Lions on the board 5-0 to start the set. A&M-Commerce stretched the margin to as much as 17-6 as Robertson had five kills to lead the attack.
The Lions rallied from behind in the third set to clinch the match. Trailing 21-17, three TAMIU attack errors, a service ace by Neal tied the set at 21. The Lions closed out the match with a kill by senior Naomi Mays from Neal to give A&M-Commerce the victory.
Next, A&M-Commerce is back on the court on Thursday at 7 p.m. when they will face Texas A&M-Kingsville at the A&M-Commerce Field House.
