When West Texas A&M's Rod Little cut through on a pair of back-door layups, the visitors went ahead for only the third time in the game en route to a 76-75 win over host Texas A&M University-Commerce on Saturday night at the A&M-Commerce Field House.
Texas A&M-Commerce (5-2) had four players in double figures, including three with 16 - juniors Austin Brown (pictured) and Desmond King as well as senior Brian Singleton. Brown also added 11 rebounds for his first collegiate double double.
West Texas A&M (8-0) had four players in double figures including Jacquiese Holcombe, who had a double double with 18 points and 12 rebounds in the win.
After the two teams exchanged baskets in the opening 2:25 of the game, the Lions took its first lead when King made back-to-back free throws. The Lions remained in front for the rest of the first half and until the 4:17 mark of the second half and built a lead as big as 15 in the contest.
Trailing 64-57 with 5:37 to play, the Buffs scored the next eight points to take its first lead since the 18:34 mark of the first half. In the spurt, Alex Davis hit back-to-back 3 pointers to spark WT. A&M-Commerce came back to take its final lead, 68-67, when King made a tip in with 2:55 to play.
Next, A&M-Commerce will host Eastern New Mexico on Monday night at 8 pm at the A&M-Commerce Field House.
