COMMERCE, TEXAS – A Selena Alvarez goal off a corner kick in the 43rd minute was all the scoring Angelo State needed to knock off the #24 Lions at Lion Soccer Field. The defense of the Rambelles made the fourth goal of the season for Alvarez stand up in the second half as Lions were unable to get a shot on frame in the second 45 minutes.

Callie Annett and Anitra Wright were the only Lions that tested Danielle Edwards in the Rambelle goal all night. Wright's chance came from a free kick with just second remaining in the first half that Edwards punched away that would have tied the score. Annett's chance came earlier in the half off an A&M-Commerce corner kick. 

The Lions had some chances in the first half and two corners but could not put them together to get ahead early and force Angelo State to take risks going forward.

"We were in the right positions but we did not finish and when you face a decent team that will come back and bite you", said coach Neil Piper postgame.

 The second half saw the Rambelles pack it in defensively to limit the Lion chances and force them really work for their offense. The Lions did get some looks but none that threating to the Rambelle goal. Jade Bell had a shot go high in the 76th minute, Brionna Minde tried header in the 81st minute but that went wide and Jessica Tait had a back heel effort that went wide left in the 82nd minute.

The Lions return to the pitch on Sunday, October 6th for a match versus the Mustangs of Midwestern State. First kick it set for 2 p.m. This game will be important as no team besides Angelo State has more than one conference win and everyone is looking for position on one another going forward this season.
