FIRST SERVE
A&M-Commerce travel to Laredo for its final non-conference match of the season in a rematch with the Dustdevils. The Lions then head to Kingsville for a second meeting with the Javelinas. The Lions are coming off back-to-back five set matches versus Midwestern State (L, 3-2) and Cameron (W, 3-2). In both matches the Lions came back from 2-0 down to force a fifth set.
SERIES SCORE
The Lions and Dustdevils met back on September 13 in the Lubbock Christian Heartland/LSC Crossover. There the Lions were victorious in four sets. The two sides had only met twice before this season, which was back in 2010 with the Lions sweeping both meetings. A&M-Commerce dropped the prior meeting this season with Kingsville at The Field House back on October 5 in five sets. The Lions will look to split the series with the Javelinas. The seires has not been split since the two sides began playing twice yearly back in 2011.
SCOUTING THE DUSTDEVILS
The 2013 season has been rough for the A&M-International. The Dustdevils have posted a 2-21 record and are on eight match losing streak dating back to a sweep of Oklahoma Panhandle State on October 4. Alex Ciszek -215 kills- and Toriana Goods -209 kills- lead the offense for International. Miranda Pratt is third on the squad with 153 kills. The quarterback of the offense is Lizzie Prieto with 687 assists for a 8.48 per set average.
SCOUTING THE JAVELINAS
The Javelinas are losers of three straight and 2-4 in their last six matches. The three loses have been to Our Lady of the Lake, Angelo State and Tarleton State. A&M-Kingsville currently sits one game behind the Lions in sixth place in the LSC standings heading into the final couple weeks of the season. Kelsey Washington -255 kills- and Stephanie Jones -227 kills- lead the offense for Kingsville. Jones ranks 10th in the LSC in hitting percentage -.249- and Washington ranks ninth with 2.85 kills per set. Sarah Fountain is the setter for the Javelinas and has dished out 871 assists this season. Fountain ranks fourth in the LSC in total assists and seventh in assists per set, 8.06.
GOING THE DISTANCE
The Lions last three matches have all gone to five sets and seven of the last ten overall have gone the distance. A&M-Commerce is 4-4 when the match goes to five sets.
1,000 DIGS
Jordan Neal is 20 digs away from being the ninth player in Lion Volleyball history with 1,000 digs. She will also be the five player in Lion history with over 1,000 in a major category. Toni Skipalis has over 1,000 in three categories (assists, digs, kills), Amy Maddox, Melanie Rea and Sara Wedburg all over 1,000 in kills and digs.
BOND BLOCKS
Senior,
Kayla Bond has recorded 283 total blocks in her Lion career. She currently sits eighth on the all-time list just one behind Colleen Favaro. If Bond reaches 300 for her career she will be sixth all-time.
ACE!
Neal is also moving up the list of service aces in a Lion uniform. Neal is at 130 currently, which fourth on the all-time list, and is 12 away from breaking into the top three in program history.
HITTING A HIGH PERCENTAGE
Bond is also on pace to have one of the best hitting season in Lion history. Bond's .307 average is eighth best all-time.Â
