COMMERCE, Texas – The Lion offense erupted for four goals for the first time since beating Angelo State, 5-1, back in 2011 and scored early in each half to never let the Patriots back into it.

Jade Bell did not waste anytime and got the Lions on the board in the seventh-minute off a feed from Brionna Minde that beat the goalkeeper through the legs to the give the Lions a 1-0 lead early. It was Bell's first goal since scoring against West Texas A&M on October 14, 2011; after missing all but one game last season due to injury.

After an A&M-Commerce corner kick in the 23rd minute the Patriot defense cleared the ball temporarily and Savannah Henderson chipped in a cross that Callie Annett headed home for the Lions second goal of the night. It was Annett's first goal of the season and Henderson's first assist.

Callie said, "I saw her with the ball and hoping she would chip it to me and I just went for it. It was a great play", on her first goal of the season.

Dallas Baptist had a couple chances to close the gap before the half but both chances from Ashley Cox went high.

Like in the first the Lions got on the board quick but this time it was just two minutes when Anitra Wright scored from at least 40 yards out and played a bounce inside the 18-yard box and over the head of the Patriot goalkeeper, Kerry Edwards. Wright now leads the team with three goals on the season.

Wright said afterwards," Those are my fluke goals, I just hit over and got lucky, during practice we noticed how high the goalie started. I was trying to get it to goal at least go over the top."

After back and forth play in the midfield for 15 minutes, Samantha Huston scored off a feed from Minde after an initial shot. Huston beat the keeper before she could get back in net after trying to clear the rebound. It was Huston's first goal since scoring at Northwest Missouri State back in 2011, her freshmen season.

The next 30 minutes saw the Lion defense buckle-down and not allow another Patriot shot to preserve the shutout win.

Coach Neil Piper thought the first half was close but we deserved the lead but it was close.

"2-0 is a dangerous lead, I really thought [Wright's goal] killed the game and the four goal obviously. We have been working on that and doing some research and it paid off tonight", continued Piper post game.

The Lions have a short break before returning to action on Friday to take on the Rattlers of St. Mary's University. Piper is hoping for the same intensity on Friday against St. Mary's.
