COMMERCE, Texas – A&M-Commerce did not waste time getting on the board and stymied the Storm attack to win their fourth in a row and record a second consecutive shutout.  The four game winning streak is a first since winning four in a row to start the 2009 season. That is also the last time the Lions start off the season at 4-1.

Off of back-to-back corners by the Lions, Savannah Henderson broke the scoring open after getting a feed from Brionna Minde and the beat the goalie from five yards out. The goal was Henderson's second of the season and Minde's, team leading, third assist of the season.

Both teams had their chances in the middle stages of the opening 45 minutes of play. A&M-Commerce almost took a two goal lead into the break but goalkeeper, Yoli Zamerripa of Southern Nazarene, saved both Jade Bell and Anitra Wright inside of three minutes to play in the first half.

The Crimson Storm had some opportunities in the opening minutes of the second half but could not get and shots pastCallie Ballard. In the 57th minute, Minde got a through ball on the side and chipped it over Zamerripa's head to give the Lions some insurance at 2-0. With the goal Minde recorded her third multi-point game and second in a row after two assists against Dallas Baptist.

Minde said post game, "I have missed a couple of chances [at open goals] in my career here and Neil never lets me forget and you are hoping that [the shot] just goes in."

The Lion defense led by Vicky Back and Laura Heron stepped up the physical play after the second goal and held the Storm to just four shots over the remaining half hour of play.

Ballard is now 4-1 to start her Lion career and has posted back-to-back shutouts. She made five saves on the afternoon from 15 total shots fired by the Crimson Storm offense.

Minde continued, "Dallas Baptist was a huge win. This win we did not play as well as we could have but its good when you do and now its important to continue [winning] as we head into conference play."

"They are a good team," said head coach Neil Piper. "I can say we did not play well but they caused us not to play well. I am just glad that we found a way to win, especially getting ready for Eastern New Mexico and West Texas."

The Lions now take a trip west to start LSC play at Eastern New Mexico and West Texas A&M this coming Friday and Sunday. Be sure to stay up to date on all thing Lion Soccer and A&M-Commerce online at Lionathletics.com, on Twitter @Lion_Athletics and on Facebook.com/A&M-Commerce Lion Athletics.
