ARKADELPHIA, Ark.- The 2013 season for the A&M-Commerce Lions started with three sets that went past regulation distance. The Lions picked up the first set 26-24, dropped the second by the same score and won the third 27-25. The fourth set proved to be the difference with the Lions cruising to a 25-13 win to take the match three sets to one.

The first three sets saw 12 lead changes and 28 ties but just one and two respectively in the third set where the Lions took control. The Lions were able to pull out a 10-4 lead in set number one then the Chargers fought back and took a 18-16 lead but could not hold it as the Lions tied the game at 21 all then took two different two point leads before closing out the Chargers at 26-24.

The second set followed almost the same script as the first. The Lions got a 18-14 lead just to see the Chargers come back again to tie it at 19 all and 23 all, then pulled out the set 26-24. In the third set no team had larger than a four-point lead. The Lions tied it at 21 and 24 before taking the set 27-25. The Lions then took control in the fourth set jumping out to a 16-7 lead and not letting the Chargers back into it.

Ciara Holmes had a career day with 16 kills on 27 attacks (.407) to lead to the offense. Kayla Bond was right behind with 15 kills, which ties a career high for Bond that was set last season against Cameron. Taryn Driver posted 11 kills in her first game in a Lion uniform on 18 attacks. Senior setter Jordan Neal dished out 53 assists and added 11 digs. Breanne Snyder just missed a double-double with nine kills and 18 digs on the afternoon.

The second game saw the Lions sweep the host Henderson State Lady Reddies. The Lions cruised in all three games with 25-14, 25-16,25-14 victories. The errors were few and far between for the Lions with only eight over the three sets coupled with 35 kills allows for a straight set win.

In the first set the Lions opened up a quick 4-0 lead eventually stretched it out to a nine point advantage on multiple occasions and eventually won by 11. The second game was closer early before the Lions went on two different four-point runs to get some distance back to the Lady Reddies. The third set was similar to the second with the Lions putting together multiple scoring runs to cruise to the sweep.

A balanced attack was the key for the Lions with Amy Davault, Ciara Holmes and Kayla Bond all posting eight kills and Breanna Snyder added seven of her own. Jordan Neal handed out 28 assists over the three games and added 10 digs, which led the team.

The action does not stop for the Lions with two more games tomorrow to close out the action in Arkadelphia. Frist up bright and early as the Lions face the Christian Brothers University Bucs at 9:00 a.m. and at 1:00 p.m. against the Bearcats of Southwest Baptist University.
